In the run up to me hosting two beginner knitting workshops next weekend, I’ve been reflecting on the basic techniques and starting from the very beginning. So I thought I’d share a little round up of great patterns and a few quick knits perfect for knitting newbies, or crafters wanting to push their skills to the next level!
Flax and Twine – Simple knit basket pattern
If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen me proudly parading my handmade knitwear for the past month.
From picking up the Milla Mia wool, casting on, knitting, finishing up and blocking this tidy little baby knit took me all of a week. Who doesn’t love a quick knit! I’ve since gifted this deep plum cardigan to my friend’s baby girl, who I’m assured looks jammin’ in it. And the process was so quick and easy, I’m tempted to make it in larger sizes!
I’m just about to cast on with my latest new project – Hamlin Peak by Quince & Co. This beautiful linen waterfall cardigan is knitted in their 100% organic linen yarn Kestrel.
Before I write any more, can we just take a moment to appreciate this perfect cobalt blue shade?! When I unwrapped this little beauty I took a full minute turning the ball of Rowan Fine Silk over and over in my hands just watching it change colour with the light. Like most silks this new Rowan yarn has a delicate sheen, but is combined with wool to give it a greater tensile strength than most silks I’ve worked with previously. Laughing Hens very kindly sent me a ball of this lovely yarn in its stunning ‘Peacock’ colourway to get creative with!
Heads up – the Knitwear Faves and Ravelry Faves are all combined under one tidy selection of Knitwear Faves from now on. And here is a small collection of recent additions to my Ravelry favourites list!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have no doubt seen countless posts of me knitting my wonderful soft pink version of the Mohair Bias Loop by Churchmouse Yarns & Teas. This stunning seamless cowl instantly caught my eye, and within minutes I’d bought and downloaded the pattern. I actually love this pattern so much, I’ve made two in as many months!
I can’t tell you how much in love I am with this sweater. I knitted this while I was on holiday in Goa (tip: angora definitely not the best to work with in 30 degree heat) and loved every minute of it.
