Here it is – my first ever homemade knitting pattern and this one is free!

Recently, a friend requested a chunky grey scarf and mitts with cables – free reign and creativity abound! Woo hoo! So I set to work and I came up with a garter stitch scarf with two chunky cables running throughout and lovely neat selvedge edge stitches. The mittens were knit in the round on circular needles using the magic loop method, here’s a link showing how to do this. Enjoy!

Yarn: Mirasol Ushya in charcoal grey (1704) 300g

Needles: Scarf – 12mm (US 17) circular needles, Mittens – 8mm (US 11) circular needles

Gauge: 8 sts x 12 rows per 4″

Key terms:

St – stitch
K – Knit
P – Purl
C6B – Slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and hold in front, knit 3 stitches from left needle, then knit 3 stitches from cable needle
C4B – Slip 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold in front, knit 2 stitches from left needle, then knit 2 stitches from cable needle

  1. Is it just me or does this not work out right? I think row 6 should be “Repeat row 2,” row 7 should be “Repeat row 1,” and row 8 “Repeat row 2.”

I will try that! I’ve started it as written several times, and the cable keeps switching sides.
